Model Quality

A missive from respected executive coach and leadership consultant Dr. John McGinn speaks of a fundamental trait leaders who aspire to change their world must hold- “Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected.”
Consider these the educational leader’s “yardsticks of quality:”
•Have integrity- be honest with all of your constituents and colleagues
•Be communicative and visible- walk the halls every day and talk to people personally (not by email) about them and their concerns
•Follow-up with action- respond to individual needs as soon as possible and with a clear course of action
•Hold and share knowledge- understand as much as possible about the district’s initiatives and be able to simply and directly articulate that knowledge
I bet most people would agree that teachers and educational leaders are held to a higher standard than perhaps even politicians are held to. Perhaps this is how it should be?
