It’s important for educational leaders to read up on the lives of successful leaders from all walks of life. I’ve been on a presidential biography kick but recently stumbled upon Paul Johnson’s “Churchill” (Penguin Books. 2010). Johnson engagingly summarizes Churchill’s success as the result of four things:
1. Aim high with everything you do.
2. Work hard.
3. Have courage in the face of failure and humiliation.
4. Stay positive and don’t let meanness and bitterness take over.

School leaders would be wise to model these traits for their teachers and staff. Teachers would be wise to model these traits for their students!
